SMIF in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is currently accepting applications to support child care start-up and expansion projects.
This season of giving and gratitude continues to inspire me. I am always overwhelmed by the generous contributions from donors to SMIF and our 30 community foundations as well as to other local nonprofits.
SMIF, in partnership with the Huisman Family Donor Advised Fund, recently approved funding from its Small Enterprise Loan Fund to Heartland Retreat & Rental Hall in Elmore for working capital.
At SMIF we are spending this season connecting with many of our partners in our 20-county region at several major events.
SMIF recently approved six grants totaling $48,800 to support small towns of 5,000 or less in SMIF’s 20-county region.
In 2016 Minnesotans were alerted to a serious lack of child care by the Center for Rural Policy and Development. Since then, there have been many efforts to work toward solutions.
These grants support "shovel ready" start -up and expansion projects, resulting in an increase of 548 child care slots in the region.
As we like to say at SMIF, collaboration is the key to vitality in our region. This is especially evident in the local foods economy.
Applicants are encouraged to consider submissions to support current or future business growth, access or expansion of resources to underrepresented populations, and/or grow the community’s ability to embrace and develop a grow-your-own community culture.
